My CO2, the latest climate change challenging application from Global Cool, launched this morning with help from Hollywood star Heather Graham.
The star of Boogie Nights and The Guru is the first of Global Cool’s A-list supporters to road test My CO2 – an online appliance that allows you to make simple pledges to cut down your greenhouse gas emissions and tells you just how much CO2 you’ll be saving from entering the atmosphere.
“I’ve started my own My CO2 workout and it really is so simple to make a big difference,” said the Milwaukee-born actress. “Think of it as a new workout, a simple, straightforward workout to save the planet.”
As Heather says, My CO2 is really very simple. First log onto http://www.global-cool.com/myco2/. Then click on the big button that says ‘Click here for My CO2 workout card’. After a couple of clicks you will be presented with your workout card, which is made up of three short pages of pledges – one for home, one for away and one for work. Each page features five simple lifestyle changing pledges that could drastically help you reduce your CO2 output.
Once you’ve chosen which pledges you would like to attempt, My CO2 will tell you just how much carbon you’ll be saving and will add your valued contribution to the ‘Coolometer’, which is counting down from one billion tonnes – the amount of CO2 Global Cool plans to save in the first year of the campaign.
Heather has already pledged to change to energy saving light bulbs, unplug electrical gadgets when not in use and walk more rather than drive.
Unlike a miserable calorie-counting diet, shedding a tonne or more of CO2 couldn’t be easier, and to keep you on track, Global Cool will encourage you to keep going and will regularly be adding more carbon-losing actions on a regular basis.
“Not only will a My CO2 workout help us save this beautiful planet we live in, it can also help burn off a few calories,” says Fanny Calder, Global Cool’s Campaign Director and Carbon Coach to the stars. “Walking instead of driving, ...take a little more physical energy that is kind to the environment and to our waistlines!”
Other big names lined up to give My CO2 a go include Sienna Miller, KT Tunstall, Josh Hartnett and star of Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming movie Death Proof, Rosario Dawson. Julian Knight, Chairman and CEO, Global Cool, added: “My CO2 puts climate change at the fingertips of everyone with a computer – that’s billions of people all around the world who can shed tonnes of carbon just by tapping a few keys.”
